PostDoctoral Fellowship Spring 2020 call

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow(s) Search

The Institute for Networked Systems at RWTH Aachen University is looking post-doc(s) to perform systems research in future wireless networks and sensing.

The research group is well established and internationally known for its systems research and contributions particularly in the areas of cognitive (AI) radios, mmW-communications and sensing, and wireless systems coexistence including problems related to regulatory and techno-economic boundary conditions for engineering. We are currently seeing post-doc(s) to join our group working in the wider-scope of systems research — meaning that while the post-doctoral fellow would participate in our ongoing research projects the research work itself is not confined to working solely on any particular outside-funded project.

In our current search we are particularly looking for:

(i) Post-doctoral researcher who is interested to work on mmW communications systems, including mmW networking, mmW sensing, and radar-communication co-existence. We take a strong systems level approach and the ideal candidate would be working on topics that are system level and starting from layer 2 techniques upwards; while we appreciate strong PHY-layer knowledge, pure PHY-layer research is not envisioned for this position. The selected candidate will work very closely with the team lead by principal scientist Dr Simić and would have access to state of the art simulation and laboratory facilities, including extensive 60(28) GHz testbed facilities.

(ii) Post-doctoral researcher who is interested to work on future (wireless) network architectures and protocols. We would be particularly interested in recruiting a researcher who would work on issues related to co-existence, (spatio-temporal) coordination, and resource allocation problems. There could be also possibility to offer position for some with excellent background to work on cognitive wireless networks and techno-economic regulatory constraints. While the most likely background of the successful applicant would be a degree in communications engineering, we envision that a strong background in control theory, computer science, or applied mathematics with exposure to communications engineering related topics would be also possible.

We require:

- PhD from well-established university in related area

- Good publication record

- Very good organisation and communication skills

- Interest in mentoring students and interacting with other group members

- Excellent English skills; while German knowledge could be a benefit, it is not necessary as the working language at the institute is English

- Strong interest in systems research, and experience in building systems, experimental work, or analysis such (wireless) systems is strongly encouraged.

We note that also recent PhD holders who have held their viva are eligible to apply, even if their degree has not been officially conferred yet.

We offer:

- Excellent working conditions and access to state of the art facilities

- 18-24 months full-time contract with a competitive salary with full social security benefits (including pension accumulation), with possibility for renewal based on performance

- Support for conference travel and materials, such as acquiring necessary literature

How to Apply:

To apply for this position you should send your application materials, including CV, publication list, and research statement to Dr Ljiljana Simić (lsi(at)inets.rwth-aachen.de) and Prof Petri Mähönen (pma(at)inets.rwth-aachen.de). The screening of the applications commences on 15 April 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
